The Cranio Sacral Society is an organisation for practitioners of Upledger CranioSacral Therapy. The members of the Society are health care practitioners drawn from a variety of backgrounds, who have done post-graduate training with The Upledger Institute. This training enables them to develop evaluative and treatment skills based on the work of Dr John E Upledger, the pioneering osteopathic physician who originated CranioSacral Therapy. Members of the Society may offer CranioSacral Therapy as the predominant aspect of their services, or CranioSacral perspectives grounded in other approaches or specialities. The Society's unique Code of Ethics and Practice holds the empowerment of the individual, and respect for the human body's self-healing capacity, as supremely important. There are two kinds of membership, Network and Qualified. Network membership is available after successful completion of Upledger intensive workshops CranioSacral Therapy 1 and 2. Qualified membership is available to practitioners who complete the training through to Advanced 1, pass the CranioSacral Therapy Techniques Certification, and have a pre-existing licensure or other entitlement to practise a health care modality. (Most body work and other health care or human process work qualifications are suitable - the best guide for practitioners working in the UK is eligibility for professional indemnity and malpractice insurance.) A qualified member is entitled to be known as a CranioSacral Therapist (CST), with the support of the Society and of the Upledger Institute, and to use the letters MCSS. |
